Police are warning residents about a pair of armed robberies reported last month in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.

In each of the reported hold-ups, a man has approached victims, asked for cigarettes and then pulled out a handgun and demanded their property, according to a community alert from Chicago Police. He then left the area in a silver or gray vehicle.

The first robbery was reported about 4:30 p.m. Dec. 21 in the 7200 block of South South Chicago Avenue, police said. The other happened about 6:20 a.m. in the 7400 block of South State.

The suspect is described as an 18 to 30-year-old black man between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-9 and weighing 150 to 165 pounds, according to police. He had dreadlocks and a medium brown complexion.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to contact Area Central detectives at (312) 747-8380.
