A man was found dead in the basement of a Back of the Yards neighborhood home Wednesday afternoon on the South Side.

Officers were called to a home in the 4700 block of South Racine at 3:42 p.m. for reports of an unresponsive male, according to police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines. When they arrived, they found the body of the man in the basement.

There were no apparent signs of trauma to the man’s body, and detectives are conducting a death investigation, according to Gaines.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death but could not provide further details early Thursday.

The home appeared to be “unlivable” and was reported to the city’s Department of Buildings, Gaines said.
