A clerk died after he was shot during a robbery at a convenience store Wednesday morning in northwest Indiana.
A suspect entered the 7-11 in the 6000 block of Hohman Avenue in Hammond at 4:39 a.m. and fired shots, striking the 60-year-old clerk twice, according to Hammond Police Lt. Richard Hoyda.
The clerk, of Blue Island, was taken to St. Margaret’s Hospital in Hammond, where he was pronounced dead at 5:08 a.m., according to Hoyda and the Lake County coroner’s office. The man’s name was not released Wednesday morning pending notification of his family.
The suspect ran away from the store and remains at large, Hoyda said. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Sgt. John Suarez at (219) 852-2981.
