SHARE Broadway’s Bartlett Sher to direct Lyric’s “Romeo and Juliet”

Bartlett Sher, the director whose recent Broadway productions have included acclaimed revivals of both “A Fiddler on the Roof” and “The King and I,” will make his Lyric Opera of Chicago debut staging a new-to-Chicago of production of Charles Guonod’s “Romeo and Juliet.”

The production, already seen in Salzburg and Milan, is making its U.S. debut at the Lyric.

The Gounod opera, which will be part of the citywide Shakespeare 400 Chicago festival marking the 400th anniversary of the playwright’s death, will run for nine performances only, Feb. 22 -March 19, 2016.
