A subsidiary of Mondelez International that specializes in allergy-friendly snacks plans to close its Schiller Park production plant later this year.
Enjoy Life Foods, which Oreo maker Mondelez acquired in February 2015, plans to open a new, larger manufacturing plant in Jeffersonville, Indiana, during the second quarter. The Schiller Park plant is expected to close during the third quarter.
“The growth opportunity afforded by this new facility is an exciting step forward for our brand,” Scott Mandell, founder and CEO of Enjoy Life Foods, said in a news release. “We’ve outgrown capacity at our current facility. This new plant will improve overall manufacturing efficiency while providing the space for us to accelerate growth.”
The new plant will create between 100 and 150 jobs. Existing employees will be offered the option of relocating, the company said.
Enjoy Life makes more than 40 kinds of cookies, chocolate and savory snacks that allergy-friendly and gluten free. Its products are free from wheat, dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, egg, soy, fish and shellfish, which the company says account for about 90 percent of all food allergies.
Enjoy Life is a wholly owned subsidiary of Deerfield-based Mondelez.
