Bears receiver Kevin White is “recovering nicely,” coach John Fox said Thursday, after having surgery Tuesday to repair the spiral fracture in his left fibula.

Fox didn’t go into detail, but said the surgery was more complicated than inserting a pin into the bone, which was broken in Week 4 against the Lions.

“They felt that was the best way to get it mended correctly and successfully,” he said.

White, who was placed on injured reserve last week, could return to practice in five weeks and games in seven. The Bears can only bring one player back off IR, though, and cornerback Kyle Fuller, another former first-round pick, could be ready to return from preseason arthroscopic knee surgery first.

Fox joked that all surgeries are immediately called successful.

“Usually when you talk to docs when they’re operating on you or somebody else, they never really have a bad day,” he said.
