A man armed with a knife and wearing a “Scream” mask robbed one hotel and tried to rob a second early Monday in west suburban Warrenville.

The man, dressed all in black and wearing a mask like the one in the “Scream” movies, entered the lobby of the Hyatt House Hotel at 27554 Maecliff Dr. at 1:42 a.m., according to Warrenville police.

He approached the clerk, pulled out a knife and demanded money, police said. He got away with an undetermined amount of cash.

A short time later, the same suspect, again armed with a knife, entered the Residence Inn lobby at 28500 Bella Vista Pkwy. and demanded money from the clerk, police said. When he was unable to get any cash, he ran away.

Surveillance video showed the suspect is a 6-foot, 230-pound man wearing a black hoodie, pants, gloves and black Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star gym shoes with white laces and rubber soles, police said.

Anyone with information should call Det. Sgt. Ken Dawson at (630) 393-2131.
