A woman was shot during an attempted car jacking early Saturday in north suburban Waukegan.

At 12:35 a.m., officers were called to a shooting in the 500 block of Judge Avenue, according to a statement from Waukegan police.

A woman in her 30s who lives in the area told officers that when she pulled over to park her car, two males in a light-colored car pulled up behind her, police said. Both of them got out and tried to break into the woman’s car. When they couldn’t get in, one of the males shot the woman and then they both jumped back into their vehicle, which drove away southbound on Judge.

The woman’s injury was not thought to be life threatening and she was taken to a hospital, where her condition was stabilized, police said.

The suspects’ light-colored car could be a Chevrolet Impala, police said. Also, two other people may have been in their vehicle at the time of the shooting.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Waukegan Police Department’s Tip-Line at (847) 360-9001.
