A Canadian man died in a crash on the Tri-State Tollway Thursday afternoon near southwest suburban Indian Head Park.

At 3:27 p.m., Gary Smith, 78; of Ontario, Canada; lost control of his vehicle and crossed several lanes on Interstate 294 and struck two other vehicles, according to Illinois State Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Smith’s vehicle overturned in a grassy area near Wolf Road. He was pronounced dead at 4:05 p.m. at La Grange Memorial Hospital, authorities said. No one else was hurt. 

An autopsy on Friday found he died of blunt force injuries and ruled the death an accident.
