Several ramps and lanes of the interchange between I-55 and Illinois Route 171 will reopen in the next week in southwest suburban Summit as part of an ongoing bridge reconstruction project.

The ramps from northbound I-55 and southbound I-55 to northbound Route 171 will reopen Saturday, according to a statement from the Illinois Department of Transportation. The ramps from northbound Route 171 to Joliet Road and southbound I-55 will also reopen that day.

Starting on Wednesday, all lanes will reopen in both directions on Route 171, IDOT said. The ramp from northbound Route 171 to southbound I-55 will also reopen.

The closures were part of a project to rehabilitate and widen eight bridges along northbound Route 171 between 47th and 55th streets, as well as the replacement of Route 171 over I-55, according to IDOT. Occasional lane closures will still be necessary along Route 171 as work continues.
