A 14-year-old boy told investigators someone shot him in the leg while he was taking out trash in a North Austin neighborhood alley Tuesday night on the West Side.

He showed up at Loretto Hospital and said the attack happened about 8:30 p.m. in the alley of the 1700 block of North Linder, according to Chicago Police.

His condition was stabilized, police said.

About 5 a.m., the man was in the 3500 block of West Polk Street when someone opened fire after two groups got into an “altercation,” Chicago police said.
Throughout the attack, teachers and children repeatedly called 911 asking for help, including a girl who pleaded: “Please send the police now,” authorities said.
