SHARE Cubs decline 2017 option on Hammel’s contract

The Cubs parted ways with starting right-hander Jason Hammel on Sunday, turning down his $10 million option for 2017.

Cubs president Theo Epstein said the organization always will consider Hammel a Cub, but he wants to give a chance to a younger pitcher under more years of control.

What follows is the complete list of Cubs free agents:

CF Dexter Fowler, LHP Aroldis Chapman, RHP Jason Hammel, LHP Travis Wood, OF Chris Coghlan, RHP Trevor Cahill, RHP Joe Smith, IF Munenori Kawasaki, C David Ross.
