Seven people were wounded in shootings Tuesday on Chicago’s South and West sides.
Most recently, a man was wounded in a 7:21 p.m. shooting in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side. The 22-year-old was walking in the 0-100 block of East 113th Place when he heard shots and realized he’d been struck in the foot, according to Chicago Police. He was taken to Roseland Community Hospital in good condition. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
Less than an hour earlier, another man was shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side. The 26-year-old was outside at 6:35 p.m. in the 1000 block of North Monticello when he heard shots and realized he’d been shot in the wrist, police said. While he was running away, he was also struck by a vehicle. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
Earlier Tuesday afternoon, a 17-year-old boy was critically wounded in a Back of the Yards neighborhood shooting on the South Side. He was walking in the 1800 block of West 45th Street about 1:45 p.m. when someone approached from behind and shot him multiple times in the back, according to police. He was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital. A police source said the shooting was thought to be gang-related.
Tuesday morning, a man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. The 20-year-old was standing in the 2800 block of West Lexington at 11:18 a.m. when a silver vehicle drove up and someone inside fired shots, police said. He was shot in the left leg and took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized. A police source said the victim is a documented gang member.
About 10 hours earlier, two people were shot in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side. The 20-year-old woman and 21-year-old man were driving at 1:20 a.m. in the 800 block of North Menard when another vehicle pulled up alongside them and someone inside opened fire, according to police. They both suffered gunshot wounds to the leg and were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
Tuesday’s first shooting happened less than an hour earlier in the Princeton Park neighborhood on the South Side. A 28-year-old woman was sitting in a vehicle about 12:45 a.m. parked in the 9300 block of South LaSalle when someone exited a home nearby and opened fire, striking her in the abdomen, police said. She was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where her condition was stabilized.
