A west suburban woman has been charged with stealing $19,000 from a Bloomingdale elementary school’s Parent-Teacher Organization.
Tiffany Moorman, 40, is charged with one count of theft over $10,000, according to a statement from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.
Moorman served as the Winnebago Elementary School PTO treasurer and had access to the organization’s bank account, according to prosecutors. In December 2015, PTO officials discovered the total funds in their bank account was significantly lower than what it should be.
After an internal audit, officials discovered numerous unauthorized withdrawals, including ATM withdrawals, between December 2014 and November 2015, prosecutors said.
Moorman stole about $19,000 from the PTO account, and spent the money on personal bills, including rent, prosecutors said.
A $100,000 arrest warrant was issued on Tuesday, and Moorman turned herself in to authorities Wednesday morning, according to the prosecutors.
She was released after posting $10,000, or 10 percent of her $100,000 bond, and is next scheduled to appear in court March 10.
