A man was shot during a robbery attempt early Thursday in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

The 26-year-old man was in the 200 block of South Lockwood at 2:42 a.m. when someone walked up and announced a robbery, according to Chicago Police. The man was shot during the robbery.

He was driven to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park and later transferred to Stroger Hospital, police said. He was listed in serious condition with a “through-and-through” gunshot wound to the abdomen.
