A 45-year-old Chicago man was shot Wednesday night in north suburban Evanston.

The man and his girlfriend pulled into a parking lot in the 900 block of Howard Street about 8:50 p.m. when someone approached the driver’s side of the car and knocked on the window, according to Evanston police. As the man opened the car door, two shots were fired and he was struck in the arm.

The man told investigators he recognized the shooter as someone involved in an earlier traffic altercation, police said.

The man’s girlfriend, who was not injured, drove him to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was treated for the non-life-threatening injury, police said.

The suspect is described as black man, thought to be 25 years old, with a dark complexion and a goatee, police said. He was wearing a black skull cap and a black fleece jacket.
