A man was left in critical condition after being shot Thursday night in the Ashburn neighborhood on the South Side.

The 19-year-old was shot in the abdomen about 7:40 p.m. in the 2300 block of West 79th Street, police said.

Police said he might have been shot while committing a robbery.

He was dropped off at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, police said.

Shermain Sargent, 41, is accused of beating Timothy Ash, 74, on Jan. 7 in the 6400 block of South King Drive. Ash died Jan. 12 of injuries suffered from the assault, the medical examiner reported.
