A 25-year-old west suburban man was charged Friday after shooting a gun into the air in Oak Brook.

Nicholas Christian, of the 200 block of South 20th Avenue in Maywood, was charged with felony counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to a statement from the Oak Brook Police Department.

At 9 a.m., Oak Brook police responded to a call of shots fired in the area of South York and 31st Streets in Oak Brook. A witness told police that Christian shot one round from a silver semi-automatic .25 caliber pistol while standing outside of his vehicle, police said.

The witness told officers that Christian had the gun pointed in the air when he fired the shot, police said.

Christian then drove away headed eastbound and was later stopped in Westchester, where he was arrested. Christian told police that he unintentionally shot the gun into the air after getting into an argument with his girlfriend, who was in the car with him, police said.

He will be transported to DuPage County jail pending his bond hearing.
