Prosecutors say a woman hit an Uber driver in the neck with a baseball bat during a bizarre attack Thursday in north suburban Evanston as he waited to pick up passengers.

Myesha Griffin, 19, of the 2300 block of Foster Street in Evanston, is charged with aggravated battery and criminal damage in the Thursday attack that forced the 27-year-old driver to have to receive three staples to his neck.

It happened as the Uber driver waited to pick up passengers in an alley in the 1700 block of Benton Street, authorities said.

Griffin was in a car, which her mother was driving through the alley.

Griffin’s mother, who hasn’t been charged, honked at the driver to move out of her way. When he moved up, the car pulled up to the side, and Griffin got out and allegedly smashed the Uber car’s right side mirror with a bat, Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Shawn Abraham said Saturday.

When the driver got out, Griffin is accused of hitting him in the neck with the bat, Abraham said.

Griffin’s mother pulled the car away and briefly dragged the driver.

The Uber driver was eventually able to call police and described the car, which was found nearby.

Griffin, who has no criminal history, was ordered held in lieu of $100,000 bail on Saturday by Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas.
