WASHINGTON – Among the names surfacing to replace Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, who suddenly died on Saturday, is U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Merrick Garland, who was raised in north suburban Lincolnwood.
Garland, a graduate of Niles West High School in Skokie, has been on President Barack Obama’s short list before.
There is a showdown looming between Obama and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnnell R-Ky. McConnell said he would not call a vote on an Obama nominee since the president has less than a year left on his term. Obama vowed to nominate a Scalia replacement.
