A man was found dead early Wednesday after a house fire in northwest Indiana.

About 3:15 a.m., firefighters responded to a blaze in the 4900 block of West 11th Avenue in Gary, according to Gary Police Lt. Dawn Westerfield.

James Brodnax Jr., 56, was found dead in the house, according to the Lake County coroner’s office. He did not live in the home, but resided in the 5000 block of West 19th Avenue in Gary.

Brodnax had suffered extensive burns, but his manner of death was pending, according to the coroner’s office.
