A 53-year-old man was killed and at least two others were injured when a vehicle crashed into a pizzeria Wednesday afternoon in northwest suburban Roselle.

The driver went off the road, struck a traffic light, went through a parking lot and crashed into Ocuna’s Pizzeria in the 300 block of Irving Park Road at 2:51 p.m., according to Roselle Deputy Police Chief Roman Tarchala.

Custodio Acuna, 53, was inside the pizzeria and struck by the vehicle, Tarchala said. Two others inside the restaurant were also taken to hospitals.

Acuna, who lived in the 600 block of Ridge Circle in Streamwood, was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village where he was pronounced dead at 5:40 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy Thursday found he died of multiple injuries from being struck by a motor vehicle, and his death was ruled an accident.

“Obviously this is a tragic event,” Tarchala said. “We’re looking at the possibility the driver may have had a medical emergency.”

No charges have been filed against the 40-year-old driver as of Thursday afternoon.

The DuPage County Accident Reconstruction Team is helping to investigate the crash.
