Three people were injured, two of them fatally, in a crash near north suburban Libertyville Friday morning.

About 9 a.m., a Jeep Grand Cherokee and Chevrolet Blazer were heading southbound on Milwaukee Avenue just north of Casey Road in unincorporated Libertyville Township when the Blazer rear-ended the other SUV, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.

The Blazer then drove over a raised median into oncoming traffic, striking a pickup truck head-on, sheriff’s police said.

Two women from the Blazer were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The driver; identified as 34-year-old Dawn M. Eyler of Salem, Wisconsin; died hours after the crash, police said. The passenger; 22-year-old Alexis J. Thompson of Kenosha, Wisconsin; died Saturday afternoon, police said.

The driver of the pickup was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries, and the Jeep’s driver declined medical attention, police said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
