A Highland Park man has been charged in connection with a string of burglaries at hair and nail salons across the northern and western suburbs that started last year.

Alan Konwinski, 26, faces five counts of burglary, Northbrook police announced Friday.

The burglaries, more than 75 in all, have happened in more than 30 suburbs since August, including Northbrook, Evanston, Naperville and Batavia, police said.

Multiple suspects described as white males in their late teens or early 20s have waited for the businesses to close before smashing glass doors to steal cash, jewelry and electronics, police said.

Detectives received a tip about Konwinski, who was arrested Thursday for driving on a suspended license in Northbrook, police said.

Konwinski, who was wearing the same sweatshirt seen in surveillance footage from a Highland Park burglary, admitted to taking part in some of the break-ins, police said.

A judge set his bond at $1,000 Friday, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. His next court date is Feb. 29.

Authorities are still searching for more suspects. Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for tips leading to an arrest. Anyone with information should call (800) 535-7867 and may remain anonymous.
