One man was killed and at least seven other people were wounded in shootings Tuesday across Chicago, police said.
The 21-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting about 10:30 p.m. in the South Chicago neighborhood.
He was standing with another male on the sidewalk in the 8100 block of South Houston when a silver or gray minivan drove past and someone inside fired shots, according to Chicago Police.
The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the buttocks and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.
About 10 minutes earlier, a man was shot during a robbery in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. The 20-year-old man was standing in the alley in the 4700 block of West Jackson about 10:20 p.m. when another male walked up and announced a robbery, police said. The male then pulled out a handgun and shot the 20-year-old in the left leg, police said. The robber made off with the victim’s wallet and an undisclosed amount of money. The victim was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was listed in good condition.
A separate West Garfield Park neighborhood shooting left another man wounded about an hour earlier. The 32-year-old was sitting in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle in the 4400 block of West Monroe about 9:30 p.m. when he heard gunshots and felt pain, police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the right side of his face and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition was stabilized.
About 8:30 p.m., a 77-year-old man was shot as he was driving through the South Side Englewood neighborhood. He was driving in the 7200 block of South Morgan when he heard gunfire and realized he’d been shot in the knee, police said. He was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.
Tuesday afternoon, a man was shot in the chest in the Albany Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side. The 24-year-old walked into Swedish Covenant Hospital at 4:08 p.m. after the shooting in the 4900 block of North Harding, police said. He was listed in serious condition.
Less than 10 minutes earlier, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the Northwest Side Irving Park neighborhood. The shooting happened about 4 p.m. in the 3600 block of West Irving Park Road, according to Chicago Police. He showed up at Community First Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. He was listed in serious “but stable” condition. A police source said the teenager is a documented gang member.
At 3:41 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot during a robbery in the Lithuanian Plaza neighborhood on the Southwest Side. The 20-year-old was approached by three to four people in the 7000 block of South Rockwell when one of them pulled out a handgun and demanded money, police said. The man complied and handed over cash, but was then shot in the right side of his chest. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.
Tuesday’s first shooting happened less than an hour earlier in the South Shore neighborhood. A 26-year-old man was walking in the 7800 block of South Colfax about 3:15 p.m. when someone opened fire from a passing van, police said. He was shot in the upper arm and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition. A police source said he has documented gang ties.
Additionally, a homicide investigation is underway in the Homan Square neighborhood on the West Side after a 34-year-old man was stabbed to death. He was stabbed in the chest and face about 7:40 p.m. in the 3400 block of West Flournoy, police said. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:57 p.m., the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. His name was withheld early Wednesday pending notification of his family. Police said the stabbing was domestic-related, but additional details were not immediately available.
