Two people were shot outside a South Loop nightclub early Saturday.

At 2 a.m., there was a fight inside The Shrine, 2109 S. Wabash Ave., and security escorted those involved outside. One of the men who was kicked out later fired shots from a car, hitting the two people, police said.

A 29-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the head, and a 34-year-old man working as a security guard was shot in the leg, police said. Both of them were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where the woman was listed in critical condition and the man was in good condition.

After the shooting, police closed Wabash between Cermak and 21st Street.

Across the street from the nightclub, two men who were inside The Shrine at the time of the shooting bickered about how they should get to their car, which was taped off by investigators in a nearby parking lot.

“This is bigger than us,” one man said. “Shorty’s inside, fighting for her life, and you’re worried about a car? She might not get back up.”
