Jason Heyward gave David Ross an expensive retirement gift

Embed from Getty ImagesIt’s no Derek Jeter retirement tour, but the gift David Ross received from Jason Heyward is pretty nice in its own right.

According to MLB.com, the new Cubs outfielder is paying for Ross to have a hotel suite for all 82 road games this season.

That will make those Western road trips a little more bearable.

The 38-year-old catcher confirmed again last week that he plans to retire following the 2016 season.

“That’s one of the first emotional moments I had in the offseason,” Ross told MLB.com Monday. “(Heyward) texted me this nice long message about supposedly what I’ve done for him. That was cool to start reflecting back and people you’ve played with start saying nice things.”

Heyward and Ross were teammates in Atlanta for three seasons from 2010-2012 and the pair shared a locker stall during Heyward’s rookie season.

Teammates Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo are documenting Ross’ farewell tour via the Instagram account “GrandpaRossy_3“, which already features a few photos.

Ross, a .228 hitter in 14 MLB seasons with the Dodgers, Pirates, Padres, Reds, Braves, Red Sox and Cubs, said recently that he would love to become a manager following his playing days.
