INDIANAPOLIS — The Bears remain in negotiations with receiver Alshon Jeffery on a long-term contract. The franchise tag is yet to be officially placed on Jeffery, but it remains an option with the deadline for its use on Tuesday.
Essentially, nothing has changed since general manager Ryan Pace met the media Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine. If a deal is not reached by Tuesday, then the franchise tag will be placed on Jeffery as both sides work toward the new deal.
The talks between the Bears and Jeffery’s camp, led by veteran agent Eugene Parker, have been positive.
“We’re actively and aggressively negotiating right now,” Pace said earlier this week at Lucas Oil Stadium. “We understand the deadline is Tuesday for the franchise tag. That’s an option. We have until Tuesday to make that decision, but right now that’s kind of ongoing.”
