Shots were fired during an armed robbery Friday morning at Treasures Jewelers in the Ford City Mall on the Southwest Side.

At least one suspect fired a gun during the robbery, which occurred at 11:10 a.m. at the jewelry store inside the mall at 7601 S. Cicero, according to Chicago Police.

Two people entered the store and asked to see a piece of merchandise, according to Tracy Munno, general manager at Ford City Mall. When a staff member showed them the piece of jewelry, one of them grabbed it and the suspects ran off.

The suspects ran out of the store through the north center doors and fired a gun in the air “to prevent being followed by security,” Munno said.

The two suspects are described as black males, police said. One of them wore a black skull cap, white sunglasses, a tan hooded sweatshirt, a leather jacket, jeans and tan Timberland boots. The other suspect wore a black baseball hat, a black jacket, black pants and black shoes with white soles and pink shoelaces, police said.

No one was struck by gunfire, police said.

Munno said Ford City Mall puts the safety of its customers first.

“The mall is open and everything is safe,” she said.
