All lanes are open on southbound I-294 near west suburban Western Springs are closed after a five-vehicle crash Friday night.

At 6:30 p.m., a 2015 Mercedes Sprinter Van, a 2015 Ford Focus, a 2014 Acura, a 2002 GMC box truck and a 2011 Nissan crashed on I-294 southbound near mile marker 28, according to a statement from Illinois State police.

One person was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with serious injuries, police said.

Preliminarily, police attributed the cause of the crash to cars following each other too closely.

The left two lanes were closed for four hours following the crash, police said. All lanes were open as of 10:30 p.m.
