A 17-year-old boy was shot early Sunday in the South Chicago neighborhood.

The teenager was walking on the sidewalk in the 7900 block of South East End about 2:20 a.m. when another male walked up and fired shots, according to Chicago Police.

The teenager suffered gunshot wounds to the back of the head and back and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

A police source said the boy is a documented gang member.
