A man was shot early Sunday in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.

The 39-year-old was sitting in the passenger seat of a parked vehicle in the 1200 block of South Springfield about 1:35 a.m. when another male got in the back seat, pulled out a gun and opened fire, according to Chicago Police.

The man was shot in the right hip and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
