A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot Wednesday morning in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

Martell Anderson was walking on the sidewalk in the 5000 block of West Ferdinand about 8:10 a.m. when two males walked up and one pulled out a handgun and opened fire, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Anderson was shot in the face and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:53 a.m., according to police and the medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 5000 block of West Ohio.

A 34-year-old man was found on the sidewalk in the 200 block of East 111th Street at about 10 p.m., police said. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died.
