A man has been charged with trespassing for breaking into a west suburban home early Friday.

Officers were sent to the home in the 2900 block of Adamson Drive in Geneva at 5:28 a.m. after someone saw 44-year-old John C. Reed breaking a window to get inside, according to a statement from Geneva police.

Officers had also been dispatched a few minutes earlier for reports of Reed walking down the street saying, “Help, help, call 911,” police said.

When they arrived at the home, officers found Reed inside holding two butcher knives, which belonged to the homeowner, according to police.

He dropped the knives when officers told him to, but then “began to resist the officer’s commands and struck the officer,” police said. He was finally arrested and taken to the police department, and later to Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva for “issues unrelated to the arrest.”

Four residents were inside the home during the break-in, police said. One ran out before police arrived. No residents were injured, although one officer was injured.

Reed, who lives in St. Charles, was charged with felony counts of criminal trespassing and resisting a police officer, police said. He was also charged with a misdemeanor count of property damage.
