A man who was injured and had to be extracted from the windshield of a car after a crash late Friday in Bridgeview was arrested for public intoxication.

Sonny R. Whitehead, 26, was crossing the street in the 8400 block of Harlem Avenue around 11:40 p.m. when he was struck by 1996 Ford Taurus that was trying to swerve around him, police said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was treated for head injuries and broken bones, police said. After police discovered his blood alcohol level was 0.245, he was charged with being intoxicated in a roadway and improper crossing of a roadway — both misdemeanors.
