A Gary man has been charged with firing shots at a family last week in northwest Indiana.

On Feb. 1, 34-year-old Virgil M. Johnson fired a handgun at a female, who had her adult brother and four children with her in the 1600 block of Georgia Street, according to Gary police.

No one was injured in the shooting and the family was able to get away to safety, police said.

Johnson, of Gary, faces six counts of felony criminal recklessness, police said.
