On paper it makes perfect sense. A former star player who played a key role in five championship seasons and has reached the Hall of Fame is interested in coaching. In reality, the idea of Dennis Rodman coaching an NBA team would qualify as insanity.

The former Pistons and Bulls star wanted everyone to know that he’s interested in arguably the biggest head coach job in the NBA. Rodman tweeted that he is interested in the newly opened New York Knicks job.

Phil Jackson, the Knicks team president, fired Derek Fisher Monday morning. Jackson coached Rodman for three seasons with the Bulls.

Since retiring, Rodman has made rounds on various reality television shows and took a few well publicized trips to North Korea as Kim Jong-un’s guest.

There are plenty of more realistic options for the Knicks, including former Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau. However, there is nothing that would be more fun for anyone not cheering for the Knicks than Rodman coaching on the biggest stage in the league.

NBA coaches are required to wear a collared shirt during games, but it feels safe to assume Rodman would find a way to put his own special touch to the outfit.
