Electrical fire causes extensive delays on Union Pacific/West Line

An electrical fire in west suburban Melrose Park caused extensive delays on Metra’s Union Pacific/West Line during the Tuesday morning commute.

The fire started shortly before 6 a.m. on 25th Avenue near the tracks in Melrose Park, causing switch and signal problems, according to Metra.

Inbound and outbound trains were experiencing extensive delays, according to the transit agency.

As of 6:15 a.m., all power was restored to the switch and signaling system, and trains were resuming normal service, Metra said.
