A man was injured and six people were in need of shelter early Wednesday after a fire broke out in a house in the South Side Gresham neighborhood.

Firefighters responded to the blaze about 3:20 a.m. in the attic of the one-and-a-half story home in the 1000 block of West 88th Street, according to Chicago Police and Fire Media Affairs.

A man, whose exact age was not known, suffered a burn to the hand and was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Center in Evergreen Park, authorities said.

Six people were displaced, as the house was rendered uninhabitable, fire officials said. The blaze was struck out shortly after 4 a.m.

Additional details were not immediately available.
