An 18-year-old man who tried to hijack a woman’s car was arrested after her screams scared him off Monday in northwest suburban Arlington Heights, police said.
Julio Cesar Ponce-Patino accosted the woman at knifepoint in the 700 block of West Rand Road and demanded her keys, but ran away once she started yelling, according to Arlington Heights police.
An eyewitness helped officers locate and arrest Ponce-Patino nearby, police said.
The Arlington Heights resident later confessed to that crime, as well as another failed robbery attempt of a woman Saturday in the 1400 block of West Rand, police said.
Ponce-Patino was charged with felony counts of attempted armed robbery and attempted vehicular hijacking. A judge ordered him held on a $400,000 bond Tuesday, and he is due back in court in Rolling Meadows on March 24.
