Defensive end Akiem Hicks will meet with the Bears on Friday, sources confirmed, as the team continues to plumb the second tier of NFL free agency.
The Bears are one of many suitors for the former Patriots player, who was traded from New Orleans three weeks into the 2015 season.
The two sides had been in communication since the start of free agency Wednesday afternoon, and spent Thursday working toward a meeting.
In 2012, Hicks was drafted by the Saints front office, of which Bears GM Ryan Pace was a member. At 6-5, 324 pounds, he’s considered a good fit in the Bears’ 3-4 scheme.
