WASHINGTON — With the Illinois primary on Tuesday, Bernie Sanders hits south suburban Summit on Friday night for a rally at Argo Community High School. Rival Hillary Clinton stumps in north suburban Vernon Hills tonight.

Clinton and Sanders clashed in a debate in Miami on Wednesday night, their last joint appearance before the Tuesday votes in Illinois, Ohio, Missouri, Florida and North Carolina.

Sanders returns to Illinois looking to make inroads in Clinton’s African-American support. On Wednesday, the Illinois Sanders campaign focused on funding for financially ailing Chicago State University and the Chicago Public Schools. Ben Jealous, former president of the NAACP came to Chicago give the Sanders drive a boost.

Late last month, Sanders, a 1964 University of Chicago graduate, headlined a rally at CSU and stopped at the U. of Chicago for an interview with MSNBC’s Hardball host Chris Matthews.

The doors open at 5 p.m. for the Sanders rally at Argo Community High School District 217, 7329 63rd St., Summit.

From the Sanders campaign: “This event is free and open to the public, but RSVPs are strongly encouraged. Admission is first come, first served.”
