Bond was set at $500,000 for a woman charged with stabbing a man to death during a domestic fight Wednesday night in the South Loop.

Caress T. Shumaker, 29, is accused of stabbing 27-year-old Ronald Thomas in the chest at 8:40 p.m. during an argument in his apartment in the 2100 block of South Michigan Avenue, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Thomas was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, authorities said.

Shumaker, who also lives in the 2100 block of South Michigan, was charged with first-degree murder for the stabbing. Police initially said she was Thomas’ girlfriend or wife.

Bond was set at $500,000 Friday, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. Shumaker is next scheduled to appear in court March 30.
