A man has been charged with abusing his live-in girlfriend’s seven-week-old baby in northwest suburban Elgin.

Anthony Briden, 21, of the 400 block of South Belmont in Elgin was charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery to a person under 13, according to a statement from Elgin police.

The baby was taken to Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva on March 9 and hospital staff contacted Elgin detectives regarding possible child abuse, police said.

The seven-week-old boy was transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge because of the severity of his injuries, which included multiple broken bones and head trauma, police said. He was then transferred to Comer Children’s Hospital.

On March 13, detectives interviewed Briden, the baby’s mother’s live-in boyfriend; and hospital medical staff, leading to the charges, police said.

Briden was scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday morning.
