A 35-year-old man was fatally struck by a semi truck Wednesday night on an interstate in northwest Indiana.

A 42-year-old man driving a semi said he hit an unknown object on I-80/94 westbound at Ripley Street near Lake Station at 9:42 p.m., according to a statement from Indiana State Police.

Troopers found a white man on the inner shoulder of the interstate in dark clothing, police said.

Nicholas Ryan Webb, 35, of North Judson, Ind., was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He suffered blunt force trauma, and his death was ruled an accident, according to the Lake County coroner’s office.

No disabled vehicle was found in the area, and it’s not known why Webb was walking on the interstate or where he was going, police said.

Indiana State Police are investigating.
