A man was shot and critically wounded early Sunday in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.

The 27-year-old was walking on the sidewalk in the 4900 block of South Laflin Street about 5 a.m. when someone opened fire, according to Chicago Police.

He was shot in the chest and taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.

A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
