A woman was killed and three others were injured in a crash Saturday night in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.
A Nissan Infiniti was traveling eastbound in the 1600 block of East Hayes Drive about 7:50 p.m. when the car ran a red light and struck a Toyota SUV, according to Chicago Police.
Emma Balenton-Evans, 64, who was sitting in the passenger seat of the Infiniti, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m., the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. She lived in the 8000 block of South Merrill.
The driver of the Infiniti, a 56-year-old man, was also taken to Northwestern, police said. He was cited for no insurance and disobeying a traffic signal.
The driver of the SUV, a 56-year-old woman, was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, while the 65-year-old woman sitting in her passenger seat was taken to Northwestern, police said. Their conditions were not known Sunday morning.
The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.
