A 20-year-old manfacing attempted murder charges in west suburban Countryside died in custody at the Cook County Jailover the weekend.
Angel Cruz was being housed at Cermak Health Services, the jail’s health care provider at 2800 S. California Ave., according to Cook County sheriff’s office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari.
Cruz was taken to Saint Anthony Hospital early Sunday,and he was pronounced dead there at 4:08 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Hehad been arrested and charged with attempted murder following a “domestic-related” incident March 12, according to Countryside Police Chief Joseph Ford, who declined to provide more details on the attack. Cruzwasbooked at the jail March 15, Ansari said.
An autopsy Monday did not rule on Cruz’s cause or manner of death pending further investigation. There were no signs of foul play, Ansari said.
Cruz’s home address was unknown.
