A 51-year-old Hammond man — caught in the crossfire of people shooting at each other — has died, authorities said Saturday.

Robert Declements was found with a gunshot wound to the head just before 1 p.m. March 20 in a vehicle in the 1000 block of Becker Street in the northwest Indiana city, according to Hammond police Lt. Richard Hoyda, who said he got caught between people shooting at each other.

Declements died Thursday night at Stroger Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
