A west suburban man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child he knew for more than a year.

Martin A. Munoz-Perez, 25, pleaded guilty to predatory criminal sexual assault Thursday and agreed to a 12-year sentence, according to a statement from the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.

Between October 2012 and November 2013, Munoz-Perez sexually assaulted the victim, a child he knew who was younger than 12 at the time, prosecutors said.

Munoz-Perez, of the 1100 block of Bangs Street in Aurora, was given credit for 576 days served in the Kane County Jail, according to the statement. He must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence.

In addition, he must register for life as a sexual offender.
